Where has the summer gone?  The kids start back to school next week, the teachers are already doing their in-service training and setting up their classrooms for the new school year, the presidential election campaign trail is heating up... didn't we just elect a president to a second term?!!  It seems like only last week summer finally arrived, and now it's time (almost) for the infamous Jamestown Community Fair.
I can't believe my son will be 30 years old in just a few months... I still remember holding him in my arms, and chasing him around on the floor on my hands and knees... I don't even "feel" like getting down on all fours, let alone chasing after a toddler.  But, in the same breath, I can't wait to play with grandkids!!!  On the 21st of this month, my wife and I will be celebrating 34 years of wedded bliss... where did the time go?
Please don't get me started on technology....  For example, my wife bought me a newer (hardly used) car for an anniversary present.  Wow, what a friend I have in Lynne.  Anyway, there are so many computer controlled gadgets, bells, and whistles on the thing that it took the salesperson about two hours to go over them with me.  Cameras looking everywhere... I wonder if there is a camera watching me while I drive?  Scary stuff.  What about the new "Dick Tracy" style watches... who would have thought!
In Matthew 24:22, Jesus said that, "If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened."  With everything seeming like it is going faster and faster, I wonder, are we in the throws of the last days talked about in the Bible?  If not, then it is just me trying to cope with the aging process.  If so, then what is next?  My friends, we live in very exciting times.  Let's keep on trying to do our best, and grab on to each and every day, to enjoy it to the maximum, and in a way that is pleasing to our creator, God, Lord and friend.  Spend much time with Jesus, in the Word of God, and with your family and friends.
And, I assure you, as soon as I take care of all the signs (notes to the pastor), another set of them will appear.  Until next time....
Pastor John
